Introduction to Geometry
This lesson is designed to help you review the basic concepts in geometry and give you the vocabulary and understanding you’ll need for more advanced problems later. By the end of this lesson, you will be able to identify basic geometric elements, 2-D shapes, 3-D shapes, and understand how they relate to the real world.

Our Mission
Curiosity
H.E.R.S. Math aims to empower girls through teaching that focuses on reasoning and problem-solving, sparking not only their curiosity in mathematics but also their confidence in pursuing it. By offering opportunities to explore a wide range of mathematical topics, learn collaboratively, and extend their learning beyond the classroom, we show girls that they are not simply absorbing knowledge but are capable of applying it in real-world settings.
Opportunity
Our goal is to ensure that all girls—including those who may not have easy access to enrichment opportunities—are given the opportunity to deepen their mathematical understanding. This commitment extends to preparing students for math competitions, allowing them to engage with more nuanced concepts and problem-solving strategies. By offering instruction online, our classes are not only accessible to girls within Metro Vancouver but also to girls from regions who may otherwise be excluded from such opportunities.
Community
At the same time, we cultivate a strong sense of community and solidarity—creating a space where girls uplift each other, share insights, celebrate growth, and see themselves reflected in a supportive network of peers and mentors. Together, we are shaping a generation of young women who excel in mathematics, thrive on challenge, and lead with intellect and resilience.
Classes
We offer two courses: one designed for students in grades 5-6 and another for grades 7-8. Each course introduces topics at an appropriate difficulty level to support understanding and engagement.
Guest Speaker
Throughout the year, we will invite guest speakers from various math-related fields to share their experiences, helping students see the wide range of career opportunities math offers and inspiring them to explore their own future possibilities with confidence.
Resources
Our support initiatives include mentorship programs where experienced tutors guide students through their mathematical challenges, providing personalized assistance and encouragement to help them succeed.
